Ten MegaTrends defining China in the 21st Century
In Davos, everybody was talking about China. Set to overtake Japan this year as the world's second largest economy, she seems on track to be the number one economy by 2027/8 as estimated by Goldman Sachs, 2007. But even then, China will still be a poor country in per capita terms. Moreover, her priorities and values are often at odds with those in the West. As China's influence and footprint are going global from Asia to Africa and Latin America, there is no doubt that China will be affecting how the world is shaped in the 21st century.
But what are the major trends that are defining China's emergence? I have already outlined what I see as the top ten trends in various contexts, including in my presentations 'A Sustainable China in a Turbulent World: Survival, Adaptation and Transformation'. The last of this series of presentations can be accessed at http://www.andrewleunginternationalconsultants.com/files/a-sustainable-china-in-a-turbulent-world---survival-adaptation-and-transformation.ppt-lse.pdf
I am now in the process of compiling my research into a book on 'Ten MegaTrends defining China in the 21st Century'. I have downloaded the first three draft chapters on my website at
http://www.andrewleunginternationalconsultants.com/new/2009/12/chinas-megatrends-1-massive-urbanization-1.html and what follows, under What is New.
I would welcome your guidance, criticisms, suggestions, and comments.
